Below is a list of some common concepts, words and phrases within Nodd.

Arcanogram

A magical symbol which expresses the concept it represents directly to the reader, even if they have no prior knowledge of the symbol or what it represents.

​Ambulant

Describes furniture or artifacts that exhibit undesirable behavior - typically moving on it's own. Happens over time when one is emotionally attached to an object for a long period of time. Detailed further under Ambulance.

​Blessed

Refers to the strange lasting effects and odd behavioral changes left upon a citizen after they survive an interaction with a citygod, known also as a citygod's blessing. This term also sees general use for a citizen acting strangely whether or not a citygod was the cause.

Chamber Bugs

Aggressive parasites which feed upon buildings, or any unlucky citizens they can get ahold of.

Chambers

One's private residence.

Chimera

A hybrid species with difficult to discern parentage.

Chosen One

The Council's official catch-all term for outsider species - citizens may use this term sincerely or sarcastically, depending on their outlook.

Citygod

Refers to any one of the six founders of the six houses of Nodd, all of whom are individuals who have experienced extreme levels of corruption.

City’s eyes

A pejorative expressing horror, disgust, or exasperation.

Cityspeaker

A seer who senses the will of the City itself.

Council Creep

An insult for a council attendant, often shortened to just "creep."

Corruption

A phenomenon caused by working with Noddish magic long term, in which one begins to gradually change in appearance and behavior.

Ditch Fodder

A term for someone the speaker perceives as weak or inexperienced, referring to their perceived tendency to later be found face-down in a ditch, either beaten or dead. Often directed at newcomers to the City, who have yet to truly understand it's dangers.

Dusting

A term for imbibing featherdust.

Ego bracer

An artifact used for storing gloam, accessing one's ego file, contacting other citizens, and more. Often a bracelet, but may take other shapes.

Ego file

A hologram accessed via one’s ego bracer, which contains information about a given user. Tracks many things, including gloam usage.

Familiar

A closely bonded bestial companion of a mage. Not all pets are familiars, and familiars may or may not be treated like pets.

Final Death

Refers to when a citizen dies and is not resurrected.

Gloam

The main energy source and currency of Nodd, said to permeate everything in Nodd.

Godling

Term for a very powerful mage, especially one who is speculated to be powerful enough to win any future GodGrinder events.

Gutter grog

A greenish-grey slurry, excreted by buildings.

Gutter runt

A juvenile citizen.

Haze

A teal-colored vapor which is produced as a byproduct of spent gloam. Primarily visible at night as a fog in the streets, where it is slowly drawn towards the Conduit at the top of the Council Spire.

Hybrid

A species of mixed heritage where the two parent species are easily identified, such as a slyne and a ravel. Often given an informal species name that is a portmanteau of the two species' names.

Insider

Any species that originated in Nodd. Most often refers to sapients, but includes all forms of life.

Immortal

A citizen who has earned the privilege of being endlessly resurrected by the Council.

Kaiju

Term for a destructive or fearsome macrocitizen.

May the City speak your name

A blessing and a farewell. Initially saw primarily Council use, but many citizens use it as well.

Macrocitizen

A citizen who is too large for the majority of Noddish architecture.

Meat

Typically refers to the mixture of ground flesh sourced from the Abattoir. Contains the meat of deceased citizens, beasts, ambulant furniture, and more.

Microcitizen

A citizen who is particularly small, especially if they can be held in one hand.

Microdosing

The practice of loading up or slathering a microcitizen with some manner of intoxicant and then either swallowing or inserting them into one's orifice.

Mossy

Often said of a particularly lazy petrid.

Moss out

A term for relaxing mostly used by petrids.

Nodd-along

A derogatory term for a citizen seen as thoughtlessly content with the ways of Nodd and the cruelty of the Council.

Noddish

A descriptor for the generalized feel of the City, including it's citizens, their behaviors, and the City's aesthetics.

Pawn

A Council Attendant of low ranking. Typical duties of pawns include patrols and guard postings.

​Pillow-Humper

A term describing who fucks their furniture, often derisive.

Sapient

Describes creatures that are socially aware, intelligent, and capable of expressing themselves in some manner.

Snoodish

A term to describe typical ravel behavior, may be sincere or derisive. Often used by ravel themselves.

Spawning Haze

Refers to the diminished mental capacity experienced after resurrection, typically brief.

Spirelicker

Derisive term for workers in the Council Spire.

Sporeling

A juvenile building, furnishing, or other similar structure. ​

Suffertarian

Term for the unique suffering-based diet of slyne. The suffertarian option at a restaurant typically includes a caged tenderling and a method of torturing them.

Supper for the City

A euphemism describing an unfortunate fate.

Tenderling

A microcitizen who is being used as food in some manner, whether alive or cooked.

Vulture

An individual who scavenges corpses for valuables or body parts.

Vulturewear

A term for clothes made out of the hide of a citizen.
