Insiders & Outsiders

Citizens of Nodd come in two broad categories - insiders and outsiders.

Insiders are the species that originated within Nodd itself, said to be born of Nodd's needs. An insider can take on a wide variety of appearances, though there are several that are common enough to be identified by name - for instance slyne and ravel. Cross-breeding between species is common, with easily identified crossbreeds often referred to as hybrids when not called an informal hybrid name (for instance a slyvel being a slyne-ravel mix). Those of more ambiguous descent are often referred to as chimerae.

Outsiders are those that instead seem to have been drawn to Nodd from another realm entirely, waking up in front of the gates to the city with few if any memories of their time before. An unusual and rather recent anomaly, the Council has taken to referring to them as "Chosen Ones", and set up the Court of Induction in order to document these new arrivals more effectively. Insider species hold mixed views on outsiders, ranging from finding them beautiful to feeling pure hostility.
