Summary

The Umbrasia Citadel is a towering structure deep within the Umbrasia District. The citadel's design is reminiscent of a grand cathedral. It is a solemn looking building, featuring prominent, dramatic arches and sharply pointed spires. The citygod of house Umbrasia, Illa Phasmere, is contained inside the highest floor of the tallest spire, overlooking the rest of the district from within.

Services

The ground floor of the citadel, along with a handful of floors just above, are dedicated to Umbrasia's ritual halls. Umbrasian mages use these spaces to work their magics, performing various rites communing with the spirits of the dead, whether to speak with them or offer tribute.

The basement levels serve as catacombs - an odd sight in Nodd, given how remains are typically treated. Interred within are some of Umbrasia's most respected members who have found their final death. They are treated respectfully, and their spirits are often consulted for advice.

Above the ritual halls, in the middle levels of the citadel, there are a number of floors dedicated to laboratories and autopsy theaters. Dormitories for house members are also found here, with more desirable dormitories set aside for more prestigious house members. On these floors, Umbrasian mages research into the Death Aspect. Their research is done with respect for the deceased, due to the beliefs of the typical Umbrasian. Research into reanimating a dead body is allowed, though limited - true resurrections remain the purview of the Council, by the Council's command. A mage seeking to reanimate dead flesh typically creates something akin to a construct.

The highest levels of the citadel are dedicated to 'dying chambers'. Within these specialized chambers, an individual can experience a specific death in a controlled manner. They are used to explore the moment of death and the effects a given circumstance has upon death.

Atmosphere

The Umbrasia citadel instills many emotions in those who find themselves upon it's grounds. The environment is deathly calm, a calmness which tends to spread to visitors. The interior is expansive and impressive, and inspires a sense of awe - or perhaps a mournful impotence, depending upon the guest. The echoed sounds of footsteps and whispered conversations are constant, regardless if one is alone or not. Manifestations of the deceased are commonplace in the citadel's halls. Those who work within the citadel tend to move in an eerie and quiet manner, as though simply drifting towards their destination.
