A township is a term that refers to almost any sizable settlement that exists outside the City of Nodd. At a glance it might seem as though any sane individual might prefer to live outside the city given its nature, but township life has its own difficulties.
Whereas food and shelter are readily available within the city proper each township has its own limit in terms of supplies and roofs to offer. Homes and walls must be built and maintained constantly, wild beasts must be fended off, and the township's survival depends on prosperous crops and successful hunts.
Resurrection is far less assured in a township and, even when it does happen, one ends up back in the city regardless. Some townships do have powerful enough mages to perform resurrection on their own terms but the skill, effort, and gloam required means its reserved for remarkable situations or individuals.
Townships are also quite prone to localized politics that can make one's life much easier or much, much harder.
