__NOEDITSECTION__It is not known if the world of Nodd ever had some form of natural light, though all surmise there must surely have been something. As long as can be remembered, however, an artificial sun has been created to create a cycle of light and dark through powerful magics that are said to date back to the city's very founding.

Weather seems to manifest in and around Nodd in vaguely predictable patterns. Precipitation precedes a shift in temperature and dry spells lead, eventually, to rain. Seasons shift from warm to cold and rains linger for long periods then disappear for just as long.

It is Nodd's chaotic nature, however, that makes any more than general predictions of these sorts impossible. Rain one day can just as easily be a rain of mephitoads the next, and it is the Council's goal that encouraging indulgence and chaos helps minimize these unpredictable events. Fortunately unusual rain is of a lesser worry than greater chaotic catastrophes, but can be seen as a sign of insufficient chaos.

Whether or not Nodd ever had some form of natural light is unknown, and all anyone remembers is that an artifical sun put in place by the Council blazes above during daytime, and an artificial moon looms overhead during Nodd's restless nights.

City's Eyes

The artificial sun and moon are referred to as the "City's Eyes", and are the origin of the expression. Each is created on a daily basis with potent spellcraft, and then made to traverse from horizon to horizon over the course of a given day. It is believed that the Council can spy on the citizenry by peering through these celestial bodies.

The sun is referred to as the Day's Eye, and the moon is the Night's Eye.

Heavenscratch

While the Council graciously provides the citizenry with an artificial sun and moon, there are no such efforts from the Council to mimic other celestial bodies - thus the default state of the Night's Eye is to remain alone in the nighttime sky. Certain mages, especially members of house Psilysium, have taken to playing with the sky above as though it were their personal canvas - dotting the heavens with illusions of celestial bodies as a practice of their craft. This common practice led to the term "heavenscratch", with each night being different from the last as spells wear out or are overwritten.

Weather

Weather in Nodd is incredibly varied, with a mixture of both mundane and arcane weather effects. The City and it's surroundings do experience shifts in seasons, giving at least some predictable patterns of heat, cold, and rain. However, there also are a plethora of bizarre weather effects to worry about. Such bizarre weathers are thought to occur when there is an overall lack of chaos in the City.

Clear - The sun is visible with few to no clouds.

Clear (night) - The night sky is visible with few to no clouds.

Partly Cloudy - Clouds cover a portion of the sky, but the sun is still visible.

Partly Cloudy (night) - Clouds cover a portion of the sky, but the moon is still visible.

Cloudy - The sky is filled with clouds - the sun or moon cannot be seen.

Rain - Water falls from a cloud-filled sky. Leaves a slimy residue on anything it touches.

Storms - A torrential downpour, usually with strong winds and gloam lightning - which causes corruption in anything it strikes.

Snow - Snowflakes fall from an overcast sky. The melting snow leaves a slimy residue behind.

Wind - Strong winds buffet the city - sometimes destructively.

Haze - A teal luminous fog that manifests where magic has been heavily used. Mostly visible at night or under cloudy skies.

Mind Fog - A green haze that causes disorientation and hallucinations.

Pink Fog - A pink haze that stirs arousal and reduces one's sexual inhibitions.

Blood Fog - A red haze that stirs the lust for violence.

Dark Rain - Black rain falls from the sky, causing feelings of despair.

Mephitoad Rain - Occurs in varying categories of severity, ranging from hatchlings to full-grown.

Byle Rain - A foul slurry of excrement falls from sickly clouds. Disembodied flatulence thunders above.

Swarms - Impenetrable clouds of vermin choke the streets - and you, if you don't keep your mouth closed.

Winds of Change - An arcane breeze causes unpredictable changes to everything in its wake.

Chaos Storm - The sky grows purple, and all manner of madness breaks loose. This is entirely unpredictable - each storm is unique.
