MageGrinder is a tournament held frequently in The Mortar. Here, powerful mages are pitted against one another as gladiators to fight to the death, empowered by their audience. Any mage of any caliber may enter, and most see the event as cheap entertainment and wanton violence.
Other variations of MageGrinder, or "The Grind", or simply 'Grind, also exist in an attempt to create cheap and exciting entertainment for the citizens of Nodd. Team battles with uneven matches, fights that pit unarmed combatants against dangerous beasts, and plenty of other creative, and often deadly, fights are arranged. The arrival of outsiders, in particular, stirred up an entirely new class of 'Grind with citizens intrigued to see what these newcomers could do.
