A scarab is a chitinous, trilobyte-like creature that is enchanted in several ways and used for swift aerial travel. By expending gloam the scarab can fly at great speeds with a rider balanced upon its back. Given that balancing atop a scarab is difficult, especially at high speeds, most are enchanted to help keep the rider astride. Unfortunately this spell functionally prevents a rider from jumping off the scarab before impacting with the side of a building - a frequent occurrence due to their exceptional speed.
