Disposable spells are small, single-use artifacts pre-loaded with gloam, designed to cast only one specific spell. One can acquire these - often inexpensively - from a mage kiosk, or as free samples in shops or initiation parties. As long as they're from a reputable source, disposable spells are considered to be mostly safe to cast by inexperienced mages.
