The Slough refers to what is essentially a river of water that runs through The Abomasum. Sewage from The Mudline as well as trash from the levels above, especially The Scrapyard, is dumped into the water where it's then forced through a series of grinders. The resulting slurry of garbage and sewage is ultimately dumped into The Bowels.
