Games

Games and sports are popular pastimes in Nodd. Whether it's to kill some time, make some gloam, or stave off the dread of what the next day might hold in store, there are a variety of popular Noddish games to play.

Tabletop & Card Games

  • Microgrinder - Resembling a miniaturized version of MageGrinder, this game is found in taverns as a casual source of entertainment, though there is also a competitive scene. Microgrinder is played by placing down a small, enchanted stadium, in which various game pieces and microcitizens are then placed to battle. The game pieces typically resemble celebrities, beasts, artifacts, or similar items - All can manifest a small illusory copy of the real thing, which possess their abilities and traits at a smaller scale. Microcitizens are commonly added for the amusement of the players, whether or not they stand a fighting chance.
  • Smokewars - A game where two or more participants load up a smoking implement of their choice with a specific substance, then engage in duels using illusions woven from exhaled smoke.
  • Whim - Named after "The City's Whims", the constantly shifting ordinances of the City, this card game involves two piles of cards. Each player draws from the first pile and attempts to build a strong hand. The second pile contains cards that modify the rules of the game in various ways.

Arcanet Games

Games on the Arcanet cover a wide variety of genres, giving a constantly shifting landscape of potential entertainment. Most games are designed to be highly addictive, with many ways of separating the player from their gloam. Gambling is popular and baked into many games, with gloam payouts as well as physical prizes - prizes which may be somewhat dubious in nature, such as cursed artifacts or addictive substances.

Sports

  • GodGrinder - A Council sponsored event which occurs once a turn, based upon the initial GodGrinder which saw Mercian Vetch and Filo Rooke crowned as citygods. Draws many hopeful contestants seeking fame and fortune, though it has yet to offer a prize so lofty as the godhood offered at the first event.
  • MageGrinder - These sporting events are commonly held by many organizations for the masses to enjoy, and feature matches between individuals and/or beasts.
  • Trickster Ball - Played between two teams, this sport uses a modified Trickster Tin as the ball. As the game progresses the ball will cast a random spell upon nearby players, with a variety of effects designed to injure, debilitate, or distract the players. Games often end with only a small handful of active players remaining, if any.
  • Scarab Racing - Scarab racing has one goal - be the first living racer across the finish line. There are organized races and events, but there are also many impromptu races held above the streets of Nodd.
  • Beastpoke - Two teams compete to be the first to wrangle a ferocious beast into their team's goal.
  • Beastfighting - A term for any of a variety of events which feature beasts being pitted against one another, whether a formal event or not. Beasts of all shapes and sizes are used in these events.
