As travelers move through the hollow a weeper will sometimes attach itself to them, following the individual wherever they go. The weeper causes the individual to be smothered by the repressed emotions it manifested from as the memories invade their dreams in fragments and broken whispers play at the edge of their senses at all hours of the day and night.
Weepers form from the repressed trauma of those passing through the Hollow. They then search for a new host in order to resolve the trauma. Once a host has been found, the weeper will follow the individual wherever they go. The weeper burdens the host with the very repressed emotions it manifested from, and the fragmented memories will invade their mind in the form of waking thought and dreams.

Some who have a weeper attached will return to the valley to try to rid themselves of it through repression but run the risk of having a weeper with even worse memories or emotions take its place.
The intrusive memories and emotions will persist in the host as long the individual actively resists them. When the experience is properly processed, the weeper disappears.

Once a weeper has attached to an individual the memories and emotions persist indefinitely so long as the individual actively resists them. Those who take the time to experience and process the emotions and memories tend to find the weeper's presence lessen and, eventually, disappear entirely. A few citizens in Nodd specialize in guiding other citizens through this experience to better enable them to rid themselves of particularly clingy weepers.
The source of the weeper, however, may produce more weepers if they are unable to process the trauma.

Weepers are a known and feared phenomena of the Weeping Hollow. They can sometimes be heard in the form of whimpers, sobs, screams, and moans. They are invisible to most, though some cityspeakers claim to be able to see them - descriptions of their physical form vary.

The intrusive memories and emotions will persist in the host as long the individual actively resists them. When the experience is properly processed, the weeper disappears.

The source of the weeper, however, may produce more weepers if they are unable to process the trauma.
