Hex is a term used broadly to refer to the application of a spell through the means of a condition being met. Almost any spell can be applied via a hex, and the condition can be set when the hex is placed. For example, a mage might place a hex upon their door that triggers the spell [[Coddle]] when opened by anyone else, rendering a potential intruder docile until the mage's return.
Hexes are spells which trigger their effects upon a certain condition being met, typically placed within an item or worked into markings. Almost any spell can be placed into a hexed item, and many conditions can be used as a trigger: One popular use involves a hex containing [[Coddle]] within areas that a mage would rather intruders not get into, to pacify any who are not the mage themselves upon entering.


*[[Hex Tag]] - An artifact that's use is essentially akin to a [[Disposable Spell|disposable spell]] for the less magically capable. It allows them to place a conditional effect via hex without being able to cast it themselves.
*Hex Tag - An artifact similar to a card one can imbue a [[Disposable Spell|disposable spell]] within, used by less magically inclined buyers to place a conditional trigger on a given spell and apply it to a target of their choice.


*Hexmark - A hex placed on an individual is a hexmark. It works in the same fashion as a hex normally does and triggers the desired spell upon a condition being met, generally an action taken by the individual. Hexmarks dissipate after being activated.
*Hexmark - Similar to a hex tag in function, hexmarks are only placed upon individuals. Often triggered by the wearer taking an action, but may be used for other conditions being met. Hexmarks are not self sustaining and dissipate after their magic is used up.


*Hexbrand - A more powerful, semi-permanent version of a hexmark. These are generally used for severe punishment, to force servitude or certain behavior, or in other similarly severe circumstances.
*Hexbrand - A longer lasting and more powerful version of a hexmark, often seen on individuals a mage wishes to enforce certain behaviors on, such as  when forcing a target into servitude. Hexbrands also find use for lengthier punishments, and many savants will enforce the use of a hexbrand upon their apprentices.


*Hex graffiti - Another form of a hex that is generally applied in public spaces where it's plainly visible. This variety is triggered by fully perceiving the graffiti, whether words or art. This creates a pressure upon the 'artist' to create more creative and interesting graffiti that is still short enough that most can't stop reading in time.  
*Hex graffiti - A hex placed into a public space which triggers upon a viewer looking at it long enough to fully appreciate the work. Words and art both may carry a hex, but the artist must create something that is appealing yet easily digestible, lest the viewer either realize they're about to be hexed or simply grow bored with the art before them.


Citizens have found many creative uses for hexes. Some relationships will solidify their bonds with hexmarks that promise pain or humiliation for breaking vows. Many shopkeeps not skilled in magic themselves will use hextags to protect their shops or carts from theft. Many savants will force apprentices to receive hexbrands for the duration of their service.  
There are many other creative uses for hexes, as varied as the mages who use them. From lovers placing hexmarks upon themselves to enforce a vow, to merchants protecting their wares, hexes are always in demand. The categories above are popular uses, but do not present a comprehensive list.
